Saga Mythic Europe Ordo Hermei Lusus

The Faerie realm is the supernatural manifestation of the hopes, fears, dreams, and nightmares of the people of Mythic Europe. All Faerie beings derive to some extent "from the imagination of the human race" (page 187, Ars Magica, 5th edition).

The power of Faerie manifests through Faerie auras, Faerie beings, and supernatural abilities that derive from the Faerie realm. Even common folk who have been exposed to Faerie influences may manifest some small measure of Faerie power, through Faerie Sympathies. More potent Faerie powers may be exercised by Faerie wizards, and some magi of Ordo Hermei include elements of Faerie power in their magic.

Faeries may inhabit nearly every type of environment in Mythic Europe, from cities & towns, to rural fields, to forests, rivers, and mountain caves. The only common element is that human imagination has populated those locales with Faerie beings. This may be a result of stories told and retold about a certain legendary being, or may be as simple as the formless primal fears of the dark, the unknown, or the strange, now given form as Faeries. It is theorized by some magi that the ancient pagan gods were Faerie beings, and some believe those beings still exist, and seek power through their favor.

The power of Faerie is compatible with magic, although the two are not the same. Magi can gain some degree of strength for their magic from a Faerie aura, and Faeries also can gain something from a Magic aura. Faeries may also manifest vis, the raw magical power that magi seek, and the Lex Hermei cautions magi against rousing the ire of Faeries, and forbids "molestation" of Faeries, which essentially means hunting them for their vis. Nonetheless, some magi are able to make bargains with Faeries for some of their vis.
