The conventum proper is situated on the cliffside and in the valley below, in a fifth magnitude magical aura; covenfolk who do not directly serve the magi live in Artenara, a village to the east; although the aura weakens downstream, it remains fourth magnitude for more than a thousand paces downstream, eventually tapering off into a third magnitude aura, like that of most of the island. As a locus of Capitulum Arcis Caelitis, Fortunia is governed by Chartula Arcis Caelitis and Chartula Emendationis Fortuniae. Fortunia is registered as a conventum in Tribunal Africae, which recognizes its relationship with Arx Caeles, but accepts magi Fortuniae as registered in Africa and subject to Leges Peripheriae Africae. Fortunia's registration with Domus Merceris is at Abyla, Sedes Merceris Africae, and thus Redaps do not travel to Fortunia. Someone must travel to Abyla to receive correspondence for Magi Fortuniae. The Fortunate Isles are regularly assaulted by Faerie invaders that arise out of the ocean, called Ildaw by the natives. This constant assault may be one reason why the natives have no boats or ships, and swimming is nearly unknown to them. Fishing with lines from the shore is practiced by some communities, but more intensive methods were unknown to them. Stone fish weirs have been introduced to Gomahara, and magically-summoned fish provide bounteous food for both inhabitants and tribute to Arx Caeles. The ever-present danger of Ildaw discourages most natives from spending long hours near the ocean, however.
