ribunal Africae formed in the mid-thirteenth century when Islamic magi fleeing the Reconquista settled in Africa. At first content to live in peace, minor contentions arose, and the magi chose to form a Tribunal to resolve disputes and exchange knowledge, texts, and vis. Formally recognized at Tribunal Grandis 1261 AD (no Quaesitor had previously resided at any member conventum), Africa functions much as any Tribunal, and has a growing body of Leges Peripheriae, called Mahkama al-Shafara.
Praeco is elected from among member magi at the beginning of each Tribunal; decisions are generally made by consensus, although contentious issues that must be decided fall to a majority vote. Most discussion and conversation are conducted in Andalusi Arabic, sprinkled with various Hermetic Latin terms.
Africa borders Hispania to the north, across Columnae Herculei; Roma to the northeast, across the Mediterranean Sea; and Syria to the east, far across the desert to Egypt.
