ntiochus is Sedes Merceris Syriae, lying downriver from Antioch proper, on the coast a few miles north of St Symeon at the mouth of the Orontes river. Only recently, Antiochus was a major contributor to the commercial wealth of Domus Merceris, as goods and vis of all varieties flowed through it. However, the Mongol invasions have disrupted the usual trade routes, and Antiochus, like al-Arama, has seen its trade income diminish in recent decades.
In addition to its role as the center of Merceris activity in Syria, Antiochus hosts gatherings of Tribunal Syriae.
