ribunal Aquitaniae, the Provençal Tribunal, borders Gallia to the north, Helvetia and Roma to the east, and Hispania to the south. At one time home to a great flowering of chivalric culture, Aquitania is now a troubled and subdued region. The Albigensian Crusades and subsequent French royal invasions have all but wiped out the Cathar heresy, and have brought a bevy of new French nobility into the region, displacing the traditional Occitan and Catalonian nobility. Ordo Hermei has suffered as well. Many magi in the Tribunal were sympathetic to the Cathar movement, and some were active members. Unwilling to stand by and allow the French land-grab to harm their fellow faithful, they fought against the invaders. Some died in the fight, while others were convicted for interference with mundanes, and some were Marched in consequence. Quaesitores in Aquitania were divided on the issue of interference, and some Traditionalists adopted extreme interpretations of interference, seeking to avoid conflict with the Church and the French crown. Many Quaesitores were otherwise engaged in an internal investigation that led to multiple Marches against diabolists, including some within Domus Guernici. Many magi died in the Marches, both diabolists and hoplites. As a result of deaths and departures, the Hermetic population in Aquitania has dropped significantly, and several conventa have been abandoned.
