Karda Urus Bjornaer was born at Porta Germaniae, the son of Krystof and Jana Tkadlec. Once his Gift was recognized, the Foedus provided a thorough education to Karda, who preferred the woods to the classroom. His potential Heartbeast was detected by Arcturus Picae Bjornaer, who sent word through his Domus, Dieno Bjornaer soon arrived to claim the lad as his discipulus.

Karda spent most of his apprenticeship in the mountains and forests of Graecia, which he found far more enjoyable than time spent reading musty tomes. Nevertheless, his parens insisted that he spend some time studying, and thus Karda did not neglect his formal education. Karda returned to Porta Germaniae late in 1260 AD, where he joined Capitulum Arcis Caelitis at the newly formed Locus Insula Valaamis in Sarmatia.

Karda speaks Czech, Latin, and a smattering of Greek and Bulgarian.
